As an art advisor, Amir Shariat brings a wide range of professional experience and personal investment to his work, offering services that stem from lifelong connections to the art trade. Born to an art dealer, Amir nurtured his early interests in art while his father sold paintings by the old masters to collectors in Europe and elsewhere. In school, Amir focused on economics, eventually earning a master’s degree in international business from Vienna University of Economics and Business. He would go on to a prolific career as an investment banker, with roles of escalating seniority at Paribas, Deutsche Bank and Nomura. At the same time, Amir found himself reconnecting with his passion for fine art and began purchasing new work from up-and-coming artists around the world. Through this activity, Amir cultivated not only a distinctive taste for contemporary art, but a comprehensive understanding of the trends and direction of the art marketplace.

With an approach that blends twin penchants for undervalued investments and aesthetic innovation, Amir Shariat advises clients to purchase art that not only has monetary potential, but appeals to personal tastes as well. To this end, Amir always reminds prospective art investors to ask themselves an important question when buying: is it something I like? Of course, it’s not the only question, but one that needs a definitive answer before even considering the artist’s standing in the art world, the staying power of the piece, and whether or not either one could help shape future generations of artists. While it takes little more than money to purchase works by Picasso, Warhol, or any other artist of similar importance, Amir looks to pieces by lesser-known, emerging artists who bring original ideas to the table. For each potential investment, he talks with artists, dealers and fellow collectors about the art, not about its investment potential. Combined with his frequent attendance at art fairs, gallery openings and museum exhibitions, Amir possesses both a unique talent for discovery and strong relationships within the art world.

In addition, Amir curates group and solo exhibitions that feature rising talents in the art world. Not only does this enable him to determine how individual pieces come together under the banner of a theme, but to determine how to build a coherent private collection. Some of his recent shows include “Bass! How low can you go?” in New York, “Eye Know” in Vienna, “TALKlikeSEX” in New York, and “I Know You Got Soul” in Singapore.
